Week of October 14 and 15, 2019

Below is the schedule of activities for the week beginning October 14 and 15, 2019:

Thank you to all who participated in the Popcorn Blitz. We had a good turn out and most of our youths were able to canvas an order or two. Good job!

This week will be a busy week for all of our youths and Scouters. We have our Investiture on Tuesday and Apple Day on Friday and Saturday. Details of the activities are as follows:

                  (2) Scouts and Venturers will not have their regular Monday night meeting because of Thanksgiving. They are expected to attend the Investiture on Tuesday.

Popcorn Order – Friday, October 25, 2019 – deadline to submit popcorn order forms and payment. Popcorn coordinators will be available at the section meeting on October 21 (for Scouts and Venturers) and October 22 (for Beavers and Cubs) to collect all order forms and payment. If you are not able to submit your form and payment, please coordinate with Scouter Bryant (commissioner@7thmarkham.org) to schedule drop-off date on or before October 25.

– Guided tours through select areas of the Zoo

Welcome to Scouting

Time:       7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Location: Rouge Valley Mennonite Church, 7452 Reesor Rd., Markham
Note:        Welcome returning and new beavers, cubs, scouts and venturers and families.  We will have a “Welcome to Scouting” event.  It is very important that all registered members attend the event.  We will discuss how our Scouting group works and what you can do to help your child maximize his/her Scouting experience.  Also please ensure that your emails are up to date on myscouts.ca so that we can ensure that you get any important emails to you throughout the year.  First official section meetings will occur in the following week.  A simple hot dog dinner will be served at the event.

Hosted Hospitality Host to UK Scouts

Cost:        $75 per participant
Drop Off:  Aug 5th – any time after 2pm but before dinner/night
Pickup:    Aug 8th – between 11am and 6pm. 
REMINDER: Don’t forget to pack a bathing suit and towel, we are going to the beach on Tuesday!

This year, 7th Markham will host Scouts from Leicestershire & Lincolnshire, UK. They are attending the World Jamboree (WSJ2019) in West Virginia, United States then they will continue their journey to visit Canada.  We are looking for Howlers, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers to meet our counterparts from UK, exchange stories and meet new friends.  We will camp close to home at Woodland Trails Scout Camp (only 15 minutes from Markham).  From here we will show our guests the sights of Toronto and spend an afternoon picnicking on the beach, and with dinner at an area restaurant.  There will be loads of camp time, camp fires, activities and stories from Scouting in the UK and the World Scout Jamboree.

Youth are welcome to arrive at camp on Monday, Aug 5 after 2pm, dinner will be served. Tuesday is a tour of Toronto landmarks, beach and dinner out.  On Wednesday, GTA Scouts will have an International Scouting day at the campsite, through shared activities and games, we will meet over 200 Scouts from the UK staying at Woodland Trails.  Our guests will leave for home on Thursday but 7th Markham youth can stay at the camp until pick up time Thursday.  Non-overnight options are available as well, please contact either Scouter Thom or Scouter Bryant if you have any questions:
